Thimphu is 45 minutes drive from Paro International airport. The Thimphu-Paro was widened recently and now it allows flow of two vehicles at a time: two-lane road without divider. The drive to Thimphu promises you with scattered traditional houses built with earthen walls, paddy fields hanging on the cliffs, and numerous temples chortens and prayer flags.

Thimpu have a much harsher climate, with summer monsoon rains and winter snowfalls which may block passes leading into the central valleys for days at a time.

Bhutan’s capital, home to the Royal families, ministers and the oldest fortress in Bhutan - Simtokha Dzong, a 17th century fortress. Situated at 2320mts and 65kms from Paro, the capital offers many day hike opportunities to small temples, nestled in the surrounding forests. This broad valley houses many attractions and is well worth a few nights stopover. The city is spread out longitudinally in a north-south direction on the west bank of the valley formed by the Raidak River Wang Chuu, also known as the Thimphu Chuu River. Thimphu is not served by an airport, but relies on the Paro Airport, connected by road some 54 kilometers away.
